A few years ago, Germany legalized prostitution. It wasn’t hard to surmise that this was meant to make Germany a bit more hospitable for all the World Cup fans who have been visiting this month. Indeed, brothels across the country staffed up and prepared for the boom — which, apparently, hasn’t happened at all. It may well be that enough soccer fans already feel they’re being screwed by the refs to bother going out at night and paying for it.

At the end of the linked article, the brothel spokesman says, “For us, soccer and sex go very well together… In soccer there is always a winner and a loser. One needs a party, the other one needs consolation, and we can offer both.”
I wonder what they offer after ties. Slightly less flippantly, I wonder if there’s a measurable change in brothel (or bar or any after-event) activity after ties versus after wins/losses.

I am curious how the world cup affects the productivity of people and organisations world wide. Is there a way to measure this? Do the number of patents filed during the world cup go down?
Similarly, I wonder if the crime rate goes down as well. People often talk about how sports can be a unifying catalyst amongst people divides. (The Ivory Coast is in the midst of a civil war, apparently political agendas took a backseat when their country was still vying for a spot in the final 16). Do criminals prefer soccer to crime?

I would think that it might not have changed at all because not all soccer fans are Male! So with this there would be a significant increase in in ‘female’ supply and therefore people would rather try their luck getting it for ‘free’.
