July 27 is the 8th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day, described on the SysAdminday Web site thusly: “[I]f you can read this, thank your sysadmin — and know he or she is only one of dozens or possibly hundreds whose work brings you the email from your aunt on the West Coast, the instant message from your son at college, the free phone call from the friend in Australia, and this webpage.” Given our own recent experience with system outages, we couldn’t agree more.

    Thanks for pointing this out. It got some great comments from our staff when I pointed it out. We have had a difficult week in MIS so it was an opportunity for a good laugh.
