If you’ve never really gotten a good look at Mars, here’s your chance: The Big Picture has collected 35 striking photographs from the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been orbiting and photographing the planet since 2006. The photographs show a landscape “very cold, dry, and distant, yet real.” [%comments]

Marvelous.
When I was a boy the pictures from orbit made by the astronauts of Mercury and Gemini filled with wonder and a burning desire to help in the exploration of space.
Pictures such as these given wider exposure would inspire young people with the possiblities of tomorrow rather than the superstitions of phony Mayan predictions of doom.
