Last week came word that the film version of Freakonomics — a feature-length documentary made by an all-star lineup of directors — would close the Tribeca Film Festival. Now we learn that Magnolia Pictures has secured the rights to distribute the film in theaters, probably in late summer. Sayeth the Times:
Magnolia’s president, Eamonn Bowles, whose company distributed Man on Wire and Food, Inc., figures that Freakonomics is just weird enough to work. “This is the business of exceptions and idiosyncrasies,” Mr. Bowles said.

Congratulations!
see ya at the Oscars !
When can we expect Freakonomics in 3D?
Congrats!
it’s in the silent film format, right?
Film never as good as the book though
You should be more excited about The Onion mention.

This seems like a brilliant idea.
This is a classic risk/reward scenario.
Relatively low cost to produce and distribute the film versus high reward if only a few million folks pay to see it. Competition in the documentary sphere is rather weak as well.
