An upcoming episode of Freakonomics Radio will feature a short segment about how hard it is to find a song you like on the radio. This will be illustrated by snippets of bad songs, the ones that make you shudder when you come across them on the radio.
Who better to help us pick these bad songs than you, oh tasteful blog readers?
Please leave suggestions in the comments section. If your song is bad, truly bad (in the pre-modern sense of the word), you’ll have the satisfaction of hearing it disparaged on our next podcast. All genres acceptable; do keep in mind that one man’s pop-music trash is another’s treasure.

Anything by Celine Dion but particularly that dreadful song from Titanic – My Heart Will Go On. It’s formulaic mush….
Two Princes by The Spin Doctors
“Stuck with You” Huey Lewis and the News
“Abracadabra” Steve Miller Band
“Rock the Casbah” The Clash
Paul McCartney & Wings “Let ‘em In”.
Same band “Wonderful Christmas Time” comes in second second becuase it’s only seasonal.
Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean.
I have two:
“Money” by Pink Floyd
“Shock the Monkey” by Peter Gabriel
Both cause immediate station-switching for immediate palate-cleansing.

This is quite difficult as I am so efficient in my efforts to avoid “thumbs down” (pandora language) music. The first that comes to mind is “Nike Boots” by “Wale.” It was featured as a free iTunes download a while back, which I regularly take advantage of. This stuck out like a sore thumb from the premium eclectic single offered on a weekly basis.
Interestingly, during its free offering the ratings for the song were less than two, and maybe less than one if I’m remembering correctly. Today however, it is quite high at 4.5 stars.
One that seems to be playing all the time and certainly isn’t appealing to me is Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA”
ugh…
