And so I am heading over. The occasion? A promo tour for the paperback publication of SuperFreakonomics. Here’s what the cover looks like, via a tube poster:
I will be clogging up your airwaves with radio and TV interviews as best as I can. (Here’s one print preview, from the Observer.)
I’ll also be giving a set of lectures around the U.K. Here’s the schedule:
June 20: Birmingham Town Hall, 7:30 pm (tickets).
June 21: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, 7:30 pm (tickets).
June 22: Brighton Corn Exchange, 8:00 pm (tickets).
June 24: The Cambridge Junction, 8:00 pm (tickets).
June 25: Dublin: Royal College of Surgeons, 7:30 pm (tickets).
Please do come say hello if you are in one of these neighborhoods. I am bringing over a slide show that I hope audiences will enjoy. It includes a five-minute clip from the Freakonomics documentary that will hit theaters in October as well as a preview of the illustrated edition of SuperFreakonomics, also slated for an October release.
You will note that I have the day off on June 23 — the date of England’s final first-round World Cup match, against Slovenia. Wise decision: I likely would have drawn a crowd of fewer than 10.

What’s going on with the Dublin talk? It seems to be organised through some agency, who’s charging double the price of the UK talks. $40 is about $50, more than the cost of both Freakonomics books were in hardback. No student discount, either. If the sales is low, that’s why ..!
It’s a real shame you are skipping London-what’s the deal with that?
Seconded- a London talk would have been nice.
I know you’re trying to look as un-textbook as possible to appeal to a greater audience, but has market research really shown that a cover that tacky and busy will sell better than something cleaner? I definitely think the exploding apple/orange is more appealing than something like this.
Errrr, the second half of June is Wimbledon fortnight, so it’s never lovely this time of year. It pours with rain. It’s the law.
Skipping london?? Unwise. Its diversity is the perfect breeding ground for socio-economic experiments.. The opportunity cost will rebound with undesired hum’o”r.
Hey, I’m looking forward to your talk in Dublin. I like that ‘brian t’s’ comment suggests a very topical point for discussion over here – why equivalent item costs so much more than in the UK? (where, as noted, Dublin isn’t
)
Way better looking than the last cover. Nice!
(The first Freakonomic cover is still the best though.)
